Sprained your ankle? The Ankle Sprain app provides guidance, by means of pictures, text and verbal descriptions on acute care, rehabilitation training and taping
Now updated with a functional performance test, where you can see the injured foot’s capacity percentage-wise in comparison to the healthy foot. The goal being for you to regain full functionality of your sprained ankle before returning to proper training/competition.
Ankle sprain is absolutely one of the most common injuries in sport and exercising. It is also one of the injuries where it is possible to dramatically reduce the time the sportsperson/exerciser is away from his/her activity, by correctly applying acute treatment, rehabilitation and taping. All too many of those who suffer an ankle sprain end up with a foot, which is unstable and often suffer repetitions of the same injury because of insufficient rehabilitation. By carrying out the rehabilitation exercises (20 of them) included in this iPhone application, and by applying the stabilizing taping methods (6 techniques using Sportstape/Kinesiology tape) described there is every possibility of avoiding repeated ankle sprains and regaining the function of a foot that can be relied on.

The latest addition to the app is 7 functional performance tests where you measure joint range of motion, muscle strength, balance, proprioception (coordination) and power on the non-injured as well as the injured foot. You plug in the test measurements into the app, and the program will calculate the capacity percentage-wise for the injured foot relative to the non-injured one. It will do so for every individual test as well as for all tests. This provides guidance in finding out when the foot may be ready to handle adequate loading again. This possibility, where you can quickly receive the performance test values makes the application useful even for those that are executing these tests on their patients, eg physiotherapists and naprapapths.

The Ankle Sprain iPhone application describes, with illustrations and instructive text, the handling of an ankle sprain from acute care to rehabilitation exercises, taping and return to sport. The bandaging and taping instruction sections also contains text from a speaker’s voice so that instructions can be seen as well as heard whilst at the same time doing the exercises.

This application has been developed by Bodynfo in collaboration with two of Sweden’s leading experts in handling acute sports injuries and their successful rehabilitation, Annica Näsmark, a physiotherapist, and Tommy Eriksson, a chiropractor.
Annica Näsmark: A private practising physiotherapist who has worked with the Swedish National lady’s football team for many years. She has considerable experience in educating football trainers and in the rehabilitation of injuries sustained by active football players.
Tommy Eriksson, (TommyTape): A chiropractor with earlier experience working with two of Sweden’s National teams: football and skiing. The latest 25 yeas he have been working with the National team of athletics and this year (2010) also with the Swedish Davies Cup team.
Bodynfo: Torsten Larsson: Concept and text. Private practising physiotherapist with many years of experience in sports injuries. He also works with information and training material in his own company Bodynfo.
Bertil Nordström: Illustrator with 25 years experience in the industry and specialising in his much appreciated illustrations of the human body.
The Ankle Sprain application has been designed, on the basis of the combined knowledge and experience of the authors, to give practical support in acute care, rehabilitation exercising and taping after an ankle sprain. Included in the material is also a functional performance test that’ll screen the injured foot’s capacity, as well as advice on when to return to physical activity after suffering an ankle sprain.

I thought the app would be more comprehensive but ie really has only about 6 exercises. There are a ton of free websites out there offering much more info. A little disappointed...
